Cedar Shake Siding Repairs — Fairview, Vancouver

This Fairview home was built in 1912 — thousands of square feet of original cedar shake siding. About 250 square feet had deteriorated enough to need replacement. The rest of the exterior was in good shape and staying. The job: replace the damaged sections, repaint the repaired areas, and make the whole wall read as one continuous surface.

Five days on site. New cedar shake installed in the failing sections, substrate repaired where needed, and a full colour match painted over the repair zone. The result is intentionally invisible. As the homeowner put it: "The photos are subtle — but that's kind of the point."

Why Repair and Repaint — Not Full Replacement

250 square feet of damage on a house with thousands of square feet of healthy cedar. Here's what the right scope looks like.

Cedar shake shingles colour-matched repaint — seamless repair — Fairview Vancouver — Pro Max Exteriors

A 1912 home in Fairview isn't a candidate for vinyl or fiber cement — the character of the building is inseparable from the cedar shakes that cover it. When 250 square feet starts to deteriorate, the answer isn't to strip thousands of square feet that don't need to come off. The answer is targeted repair: replace what's failing, restore what's behind it, and make the repaired section disappear into the rest of the wall.
That's precision work. The shingle profile has to match, the coursing has to align, and the paint has to be mixed and applied so the seam between old and new is invisible in normal light. Max was on site regularly throughout the project to ensure the work was tracking. The homeowner noticed — and mentioned it directly in their review.

"We have a big old 1912 house with thousands of square feet of cedar shake siding; about 250 square feet of that siding was starting to deteriorate and needed to be replaced. Max came in, listened to what we wanted, measured, replied quickly with a reasonable quotation, and was able to start work shortly. The workmanship on the siding repair is excellent, and on top of that, they recommended a small change that is not only functional but looks great as well. Max was on site often, checking the progress. He was able to answer and resolve questions or concerns quickly. He's an excellent communicator. We really enjoyed working with them and would highly recommend them. The photos are subtle, but that's kind of the point!"
