This West Vancouver home came to us with aging cedar siding that had reached the end of its service life — faded, warping at the seams, and no longer protecting the structure the way it should.
The homeowners wanted a complete transformation: a material that would hold up in BC's wet climate, look sharp for decades, and not require constant maintenance. James Hardie board and batten panels were the right answer.
After, During & Before
Completed exterior — installation stages — original cedar siding.
A complete exterior transformation — old cedar out, fibre cement in.
Full removal of existing cedar siding across the entire exterior. New James Hardie board and batten panels installed to manufacturer specifications — proper fastening, flashing at all penetrations, and clean vertical lines throughout.
The result is a home that looks fundamentally different and is protected by one of the most durable exterior cladding systems available in British Columbia.
Location:West Vancouver, BC
Date: March-April 2026
Scope:Full exterior siding replacement
Material: James Hardie board and batten panels — fibre cement
Board and batten is a vertical panel system — alternating wide boards with narrow battens covering the seams. On a home in the Fraser Valley where rain is constant and temperature swings are significant, the material choice matters as much as the installation.
James Hardie fibre cement doesn't rot, doesn't warp, and doesn't attract pests. It holds paint longer than wood and outperforms cedar in extreme weather. For a full replacement project at this scale, it's the material we'd choose for our own homes.
Investment: $35,500
Warranty: 5-year workmanship warranty + James Hardie manufacturer warranty
