The front of this Maple Ridge home and the side garage wall had aging cedar siding. The owners wanted to upgrade the material — but keep the look consistent with the cedar that was staying on the rest of the house.
That's a tighter scope than a full replacement, and harder to execute: Hardie Plank has to be installed, primed, and painted to a finish that reads as intentional — not mismatched. We handled the front facade, garage wall, and a small side section. The rest of the cedar stays untouched.
Before, During & After
Original cedar siding — James Hardie Plank installation stages — completed painted finish.
Cedar works — until it doesn't. Here's why Hardie was the right call for these sections.
Cedar siding has a natural character — but in the Lower Mainland, it demands maintenance. Painting every few years, caulking at joints, watching for rot where water collects. On a home where only part of the exterior was failing, the priority was finding a material that would integrate cleanly with what remained and require nothing after installation.
James Hardie Plank delivered exactly that. The fiber cement panel doesn't rot, doesn't crack under freeze-thaw cycles, and holds paint significantly longer than wood. The horizontal profile matched the home's existing lines. The result reads as one exterior — not a section that was swapped out.
