This was a new custom build in Mount Pleasant — two months on site, two distinct Hardie products, and a design that required each zone to land precisely. The upper floor: Hardie Shingles in Arctic White. The lower floor: Hardie Artisan in a deep charcoal. The junction between them had to be clean enough to hold the architectural intent of the whole house.
We handled siding preparation and installation only — no general contracting, no finish work outside our scope. Building wrap, rain screen, full Hardie install to manufacturer spec at every opening, corner, and transition. The result is what you see: a finished exterior that earns the house it's on.
Construction to Completion
Early framing stage — Tyvek wrap and rain screen installation — completed Hardie Shingles and Artisan exterior.
The design called for contrast — texture above, smooth planes below. Here's how it came together on site.
New construction siding on a custom build is a different scope than a replacement job. There's no existing exterior to reference, no colour match to hit, and the install has to work across multiple material zones that the architect designed to contrast deliberately. On this Mount Pleasant build, the upper floor called for shingles — a classic profile updated with a bright white Hardie finish. The lower floor called for Artisan — a thicker, deeper plank with a more architectural presence.
Getting the transition right between the two materials is where most of the craft sits. The horizontal break between shingle and plank has to be level across the full width of the house, properly flashed, and tight at every return. On a modern infill home with black window frames and clean concrete lines, there's nowhere to hide a sloppy junction. This one holds.
