The front of this Cloverdale home had original vinyl siding that had lost its colour and its credibility. The rest of the exterior wasn't the issue — just the front facade and the return wall to the left. The owners wanted Hardie. They didn't want to pay for a full house replacement they didn't need.
That's a scope we do often. We removed the vinyl on the front and return wall only, installed James Hardie Plank to spec, and matched the trim to tie the new section cleanly into what remained. The colour change from beige vinyl to slate grey Hardie is the kind of upgrade that changes how a house reads from the street.
Before & After
Original beige vinyl siding — completed James Hardie Plank installation, front facade and return wall.
Vinyl was the original material. It served its time. Here's why the owners upgraded the front — and only the front.
Vinyl siding doesn't fail suddenly — it fades, goes chalky, and starts looking like the decade it was installed in. On this Cloverdale home, the front was the problem. The rest of the envelope was fine. A full house replacement would have cost more than twice this project for material that didn't need to come off.
Partial replacements like this one require a clean transition between old and new material. The junction between the Hardie section and the remaining siding has to be properly flashed and visually resolved — not just butted together and caulked. We've done enough of these to know where those details matter. The installer on this job, Vlad, is exactly the kind of craftsman that makes partial replacements look like they were always that way.
